कोलकाता में 21 फरवरी को पार्क होटल में केकेएन ग्रुप और कैंडिड कम्युनिकेशन की ओर से 'जर्नलिज्म एवार्ड 2009' प्रदान किए गए. मशहूर फोटो जर्नलिस्ट दुर्गादास चटर्जी को लाइफ टाइम एचीवमेंट एवार्ड से सम्मानित किया गया. करीब दो दर्जन हिंदी, अंग्रेजी व बांग्ला भाषी मीडियाकर्मियों को विभिन्न श्रेणियों में पुरस्कृत किया गया. सभी पुरस्कार श्रेणियों व इसके विजेताओं के नाम की लिस्ट नीचे प्रकाशित की जा रही है. लेकिन उससे पहले, वो प्रेस रिलीज, जो अवार्ड सेरेमनी से संबंधित है-

An evening saluting the newsmakers!

Kolkata : Veteran photojournalist Mr. Durgadas Chatterjee was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Journalism Awards 2009. The grand finale of the Journalism Awards was presented by the KKN Group in association with Candid Communication at the Park Hotel in Kolkata on Sunday.

Mr. Durgadas Chatterjee took photojournalism to a new level during his momentous career of fifty years. He has captured many historic moments like the departure of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay for the Everest as well as their return. For over half a century he shot history for a number of publications like The Indian Express, The United Press of America, Columbia Broadcasting System and Reuters. In 1971, at the peak of the Mukti Juddho he risked his life to capture exclusive army footage of Pakistan's Baluchistan Regiment at Balurghat. He has excelled in capturing the truth of human bondage through Bihar’s flood victims, Orissa’s flood victims, stampede at the Kumbh Mela and many other instances. He is regarded as a stalwart in his field. The lifetime achievement is hence a salute to the “Lensman behind History”.

The Journalism Awards 2009 saw the journalists being bestowed with prestigious awards in categories such as General News and Features, Business, Lifestyle, Sports, Television and Photo-Journalism. A distinguished panel of judges consisting of ace photographer Mr. Raghu Rai, renowned film director Mr. Prabhat Roy, renowned sports commentator Mr. Kishore Bhimani, veteran footballer Mr. Prasun Banerjee, Industrialist Mr. Pawan Ruia, veteran journalist Mr. Manojit Mitra and Mr. Sudama Prasad Singh rendered their discerning judgment to decide on the winners. The finalists in the various categories were felicitated with mementos while the winners were given an award along with prize money for their superb contributions.

The Journalism Awards Committee consists of veteran journalists Tarun Ganguly, Jayanta Sarkar, Ananta Jana, Raj Mithulia, prominent photojournalist Subrata Patranobish.

A host of well-known personalities made the grand finale of the awards a super success with their gracious presence. Veteran actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Shri J.P. Dua, the Chairman of Allahabad Bank, Shri Partha S. Bhattacharya, the Chairman of Coal India Ltd., industrialists Mr. Sanjay Budhia of Patton India and Mr. Satyam Roy Chowdhury, Chairman of Techno India, the Sheriff Mr. Utpal Chatterjee, the DGP West Bengal Mr. Bhupinder Singh, renowned painter Mr. Sunil Das, famous photographer Mr. Sunil Dutta, award winning director Mr. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, the commissioner of Police Mr Gautam Mohan Chakraborty, actor Ms. Rituparna Sengupta, famous cricketer Mr. Sambaran Banerjee, danseuse Ms. Alokananda Roy, footballer Padmashree Chuni Goswami and actor Mr. Kaushik Sen made the event a gala and glittering affair!

The Journalism Awards 2009 is a tribute to the noble profession of journalism for both the print and the electronic media. The evening was indeed memorable and special as all the newsmakers were felicitated and given awards in different categories for their precious contribution to journalism. The show was brilliantly anchored by Mir, the renowned Radio Mirchi RJ. A host of well-known faces from Tollywood added to the glam quotient of the event.

About Journalism Awards 2008 : The first year of the Journalism Awards saw the eminent personalities of the city raising a toast to scribes at the ceremony. The former Information & Broadcast Minister - Shri Priyaranjan Dasmunshi was the guest of honour for the evening. Shri Biman Bose, Chairman, Left Front was the special guest accompanied by the renowned business tycoon of the city-Russy Modi. The jury for these awards comprised of a panel of distinguished personalities like Shri R. P Goenka, Chairman RPG group, renowned author Padmashree Amitabha Choudhury, the eminent author Shri Samaresh Majumdar, Shri Gautam Ghosh, the renowned film maker and Shri Biswanath Dutta, the ex-president, BCCI. Celebrated sports personalities like P.K Banerjee and Dibyendu Barua also graced the evening. Tollywood stars like Arjun Chakrabarty and Konineeca Banerjee also added to the charm of the starry evening. Accompanying these celebrated host of guests were Bickram Ghosh, the renowned percussionist and Mr. Anjan Chatterjee, the esteemed owner of the Speciality Group. Besides these there was a bevy of several other eminent personalities present at the Award ceremony thus making it a grand success.
