आईजेयू ने पत्रकार डेविड देवदास की पिटाई मामले में प्रेस काउंसिल से जांच की अपील की

Hyderabad : The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has appealed to the Press Council of India (PCI) to take up inquiry into the case of "brutal assault" allegedly by security personnel on senior journalist and author David Devadas on September 5 in Srinagar."The unprovoked and brutal assault" on Devadas amounted to attack on the freedom of media, IJU said in a letter addressed to PCI Chairman Justice G N Ray.

The letter has been signed by IJU President S N Sinha and Secretary-General Devulapalli Amar."The assault was meant to scare away journalists. The arrogance of the security personnel was exposed when they registered a case against Devadas alleging that he attacked them with an intent to kill," they said."We urge upon the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to give adequate security cover to the scribe," an IJU statement said here today.Devdas, author of `In Search of a Future, the Story of Kashmir', has alleged that he was taken to a police station in Sringar where he was assaulted by policemen.
